View Past IssuesQuality management is something that many companies, such as those in the oil and gas industry, construction, and manufacturers consider a top priority. Dan Penney believes that the automotive industry should be no different. Dan is the dealer principal of five car dealerships in the province. In 2014, he made it his goal to certify three divisions of the Penney Automotive Group with an ISO 9001 Quality Certification Standard.
The Quality Management System is used to ensure that vehicles, parts, and services meet both the specified customer requirements and the dealerships’ business objectives in a consistent and reliable manner. The system is based on the requirements of customers as well as applicable International and National Standards.
Julia Penney, Dan’s daughter, is the Group Quality Manager. “We are committed to the development, implementation and continual improvement of our quality management system. We identify resource requirements to ensure the availability of properly trained personnel for all operations that affect the service provision of vehicles, parts, and all activities related to performance of work. I conduct internal audits of every department of every dealership within the scope of our registration to make sure that quality is at the forefront of everything we do” she says.
“Our dedicated staff is committed to delivering exceptional customer service, which in turn helps us give back to the community in a variety of ways” Dan says.
Dan and Julia hope that the future of the automotive industry will be grounded in quality and that customers look for the ISO certification when shopping for a new or used vehicle. “Seeing the ISO logo should be something that makes customers feel a little more relaxed about car shopping. You know that if you’re walking through the door of an ISO certified business, you’re being taken care of by professionals who care about making things better” Julia notes.
Currently, ISO 9001 certification has been achieved for Toyota Plaza, Penney Mazda, Collision Experts, and Penney Kia. The group intends to extend certification across all locations within the Penney Automotive Group.
Julia would like to thank Quality Plus Inc, Terri Andrews, and SAI Global for their help in obtaining the group’s ISO 9001:2008 registration.
