Project Expertise from Technip Canada Limited

A local perspective with a global presence.

Technip Canada is a leader in the fields of project management, engineering and construction in Canada’s oil and gas industry, offering a comprehensive portfolio of innovative solutions and technologies. Since 1997, Technip Canada has maintained its Eastern Canada base in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador and in 2009, a second Canadian office was established in Calgary, Alberta.

Technip Canada currently employs 90 people, with two-thirds employed in technical jobs as engineers, draftsmen and designers. Technip Canada has built a reputation for technological advancement in a challenging environment and for creating and developing employment and business opportunities for the people of Atlantic Canada. In addition to the local staff of highly trained personnel with practical hands-on experience, Technip Canada has utilized its internal network of expertise to service many of the major Canadian oilfield development projects.

A Worldwide Presence

Since the completion of the White Rose Project in 2005, Technip Canada has exported its expertise to other parts of the world and has worked on more than 45 international projects, including projects in UK, France, Brazil and USA. Technip Canada is also looking to import the international experience of its parent company, Paris-based Technip Group, in building and installing topsides for offshore production platforms. Most recently, Technip Canada has teamed with IMV Mustang Atlantic to bid for the Hebron Topsides contract.

In Western Canada, Technip Canada is active in refining, bitumen upgrading, steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) and gas processing. Major projects recently executed include bitumen upgraders and hydrogen units. Particular focus is dedicated to environmental projects such as bio-fuels and carbon capture and storage (CCS).

Local Commitment

Since 1997, Technip Canada has been a primary contractor involved in every offshore development in Atlantic Canada. With its current prospects and future company growth strategies, Technip Canada is committed to serving Canada’s Oil and Gas industry.

Technip Canada marked the completion of the North Amethyst Project for Husky Energy in October 2009. This project represents the first subsea tie-back completed within Eastern Canada and is a satellite development to the White Rose field originally executed by Technip Canada. Construction of the project was completed within two years of award and within four years of the first exploratory well on the location. Executed within the harsh environment of Eastern Canada, the offshore installation was completed by two vessels from the Technip fleet – the Deep Pioneer and the Wellservicer. This $1.8-billion project is expected to start production in the coming months.

With the completion of the North Amethyst Project, and recent successful award of a major contract for development in the region, Technip Canada will continue to be a key stakeholder in the region and play a significant role in the ongoing development of a sustainable industry.

Leveraging the Potential of the Arctic

A 2008 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) estimated that areas north of the Arctic Circle have 13% of the world’s remaining undiscovered oil and 30% of its natural gas. With an extensive track record in sub-arctic projects, Technip is currently developing its strategy to establish itself as the leading contractor in the Arctic market. This will occur through the development of differentiating know-how and technologies, while anticipating the developments necessary to meet the future challenges of the market.

Looking to the future, Technip Canada intends to build its experience in the industry and on building its commitment to the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Alberta, in particular, and, Canada, in general. The expanded capabilities that are now offered within Technip Canada provide exciting opportunities for future field developments in the region. The ability to design and build offshore facilities and the ability to offer leading solutions for deep and ultra deep water environments enables Technip Canada to offer all types of solutions to create value for clients in the industry.

Tina Olivero

30 years ago, Tina Olivero looked into the future and saw an opportunity to make a difference for her province and people. That difference came in the form of the oil and gas sector. Six years before there was even a drop of oil brought to the shores of Newfoundland, she founded The Oil and Gas Magazine (THE OGM) from a back room in her home on Signal Hill Road, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. A single mother, no financing, no previous journalism or oil and gas experience, she forged ahead, with a creative vision and one heck of a heaping dose of sheer determination. With her pioneering spirit, Ms. Olivero developed a magazine that would educate, inspire, motivate and entertain oil and gas readers around the world — She prides herself in marketing and promoting our province and resources in unprecedented ways. The OGM is a magazine that focuses on our projects, our people, our opportunities and ultimately becomes the bridge to new energy outcomes and a sustainable new energy world. Now diversifying into the communications realms, a natural progression from the Magazine, The OGM now offers an entirely new division - Oil & Gas Media. Today, The Oil and Gas Magazine is a global phenomenon that operates not only in Newfoundland, but also in Calgary and is read by oil and gas enthusiasts in Norway, Aberdeen, across the US and as far reaching as Abu Dhabi, in the Middle East. Believing that Energy is everyone’s business, Ms. Olivero has combined energy + culture to embrace the worlds commitment to a balance of work and home life as well as fostering a foundation for health and well being. In this era of growth and development business and lifestyle are an eloquent mix, there is no beginning or end. Partnering with over 90 oil and gas exhibitions and conferences around the world, Ms. Olivero's role as a Global Visionary is to embrace communication in a way that fosters oil and gas business and industry growth in new and creative ways.
