View Past IssuesSafety first! In the energy industry—it’s the golden rule! For the past fifteen years Rogers Enterprises Ltd. (REL), a full-service provider of health and safety consulting and training, has been working with the energy industry to help clients re-enforce this rule.
Bruce Rogers, REL’s CEO, attributes his company’s success to having an understanding of the health and safety needs within the industry and tailoring REL’s services to meet those needs. As such, REL has focused on providing competency-based training in a comfortable indoor environment, with practical exercises that are realistic and comparable to situations the course participants will encounter within the workplace. Rogers says, “In 2010, REL moved forward with construction of a new 11,000 square foot corporate office and training facility in Paradise, Newfoundland . This spacious, multiclassroom facility has a 4,000 square foot open warehouse that allowed us to install a new fixed confined space entry (CSE) simulator – consisting of two industrial-sized, interconnecting tanks for competency-based training in confined space entry techniques, and a fixed, elevated work platform for fall protection training.”
REL’s dedication to providing a quality service and its investment in new equipment and facilities has had an immediate impact on the growth of the company. Rogers says, “In 2010,REL had eight employees. By 2012, we have seen an increase in the number of employees rise to twenty. As our current client list continues to grow, we expect to see the number of employees grow accordingly to meet the demand and to maintain the quality of services that our clients have come to expect. As part of our expansion planning, in September we will be starting construction to add an additional 7000 sq. ft. of training space to our existing training facility in Paradise and expect to have the additional space available by December 2012. As well, in 2012 REL expanded to central and western Newfoundland by purchasing a new 3200 sq. ft building for training in Grand Falls – Windsor and leasing 3200 sq. ft. of office/training space in Pasadena. These new facilities have also been equipped with CSE and fall protection simulators to ensure quality training.
Our investment in additional facilities and recruitment of new staff enables REL to offer clients more options and greater flexibility in meeting their training needs. And it is a statement
of commitment that REL intends to keep raising the bar when it comes to the delivery of quality health and safety services.”
REL offers competency-based training in a variety of subject areas at all three training facilities and at client sites. At the request of clients, course curriculum can be developed and tailored to meet specific workplace requirements.
The range of REL’s high-demand courses include WHSCC approved Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, and Power Line Hazards. Other training programs available include Gas Testing Techniques, H2S Alive™ (Enform), Asbestos Abatement Techniques, Lock-out/Tag-out Techniques, and Respiratory Protection (SCBA and SABA training). Clients also benefit from REL’s expertise in Industrial Hygiene and Safety Management Services. According to Rogers, “REL offers a broad range of industrial hygiene services, including air quality sampling fumes/mists/aerosols/fibers/dust), gas detection, hazardous material assessments, noise level testing, illumination/lighting surveys, ventilation testing, and asbestos sampling and identification.
We also assist clients in the development of site-specific safety management programs, respiratory protection programs, hearing conservation programs, and health surveillance
programs. REL currently has safety consultants placed on client projects throughout Newfoundland and Labrador to oversee day-to-day safety management on the projects.”
To better serve clients, REL has formed strategic partnerships with leading providers of integrated medical, rehabilitation, vocational and injury prevention services, as well as providers of QHSE project management systems. Those partnerships have allowed REL to pursue new business opportunities and display the company’s expertise on a national and international level.
REL’s strategic planning and expansion plans ensure that it continues to be a leader in the provision of health and safetyservices to the energy industry.
