In a history spanning more than 160 years, we have achieved many milestones, consistent growth in business and skills and extended our geographical reach more than 55 countries. Here are some of the key milestones we have achieved in our past:

1848 – Matthew Hall opens lead work business in Lambeth (becoming an early UK specialist in plumbing and sanitation)

1883 – Leonard Fairclough starts stone business in the UK

1884 – The Water Works Supply Company is created by the Foster family

1891 – Wheeler Condenser & Engineering Company is established

1923 – Fairclough Civil Engineering builds one of the first UK bypass road at Purfleet

1927 – Foster Wheeler Corporation (FWC) is formed from a merger of two US companies: the Power Specialty Company (which replaced Water Works Supply Company) and the Wheeler Condenser & Engineering Company

1929 – FWC is first listed on the New York Stock Exchange

1939 – Matthew Hall & Co exceeds £1 million turnover, employs 2,700 people

1960 – William Press establishes Costain & Press to undertake mechanical works for oil companies overseas

1963 – Matthew Hall splits into Matthew Hall Mechanical Services, Matthew Hall Engineering, Matthew Hall Works & Plant

1971 – The Queens Award to Industry for Export Achievement is awarded to the Process Plants Division

1981 – The Queen’s Award for Export Achievement is awarded to Foster Wheeler Power Products

1982 – William Press and Fairclough construction groups merge to form AMEC plc

1982 – AMEC plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange

1988 – Matthew Hall Group of Companies, operating from the UK, Australia, Holland and the US, employing 10,000 people, is brought into AMEC group

2000 – AMEC merges with AGRA

2005 – Foster Wheeler is relisted on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange

2014 – AMEC and Foster Wheeler combine on 13 November to create a new force in global engineering, project delivery, asset support, power equipment and consultancy, trading on the London and New York Stock Exchanges in the Oil Equipment and Services sector (AMFW)
