View Past IssuesCleantech start-up Grid Edge, which recently closed a £2m Series A+ funding from bp ventures, Goldacre (part of the Noé Group) and Aston University has today announced its new CEO. Paul McCorquodale, an experienced business leader who has scaled fast-growing start-ups through business transformation, has been appointed as the new Grid Edge CEO effective immediately.
Tom Anderson, Co-Founder of Grid Edge took the decision to step down as CEO and will remain with the company on its Leadership team. Tom led Grid Edge from its inception as a spin-out from Aston University through to a strong growth phase, along with two successful funding rounds.
“During the past five years, Tom has given everything to the business and remains a vital member of the Grid Edge team. After closing a recent investment round and successfully negotiating new sales and partnership agreements, Tom has personally recognized a new structure for the leadership team will ensure the business reaches its next phase of growth and scale” said Andy Tulloch, Chairman of Grid Edge Ltd.

Most recently, McCorquodale was Chief Operating & Information Officer at one of the UK’s fastest-growing and award-winning energy consultancies, Amber. Responsible for a product, technology, and operations enabling the business to successfully grow year on year. Prior to this, he was COO/CIO at an award-winning eCommerce SaaS business, Volo Commerce, enabling large retail brands to sell instantly all over the world. Here, McCorquodale successfully implemented numerous efficiency improvements across the business, including agile delivery and microservice architecture principals, resulting in an over 300% increase in software releases per year.
At EE and its former brand Orange, McCorquodale held a number of roles during an impressive 15-year career. Joining Orange from Strathclyde University with a degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, he then went on to successfully lead international teams to drive innovation and business efficiencies. These key roles included; UK Delivery Transformation Manager, Head of Network Integration, and Head of Service Management where he was accountable for the successful delivery and performance of all B2B, Wholesales, MVNO, M2M, and New Business services to over three million customers on the EE, Orange and T-Mobile brands.
Alongside his corporate career, McCorquodale co-founded Making It Simple. An m-commerce SaaS business providing mobile apps and technology solutions for small businesses across the UK. The solutions included online ordering technology for the hospitality industry and online project management and collaboration system for small businesses.
