View Past IssuesWood has secured a contract from Siemens to install a new Siemens HL-class gas turbine at a power generating station in North Carolina.
The award will see Wood mobilize a team of around 400 people to the project site to deliver this notable construction project for a period of approximately 11 months.
Andrew Stewart, Wood’s Asset Solutions Americas CEO, said: “This contract is a fantastic demonstration of Wood’s ability to deliver a breadth of services to meet the needs of various customers in the power and process industries. This power plant is serving the growing demand for electricity, and the construction of a new combustion turbine station is part of a plant expansion program.”
Stewart added: “Siemens is driving the test of new, more efficient HL-class gas turbine technology at the station and we are privileged to be part of this important and strategic program to add 400 megawatts of capacity to the plant’s existing 1,200 megawatts.”
Wood has secured a multimillion-dollar construction contract from IR1 Group LLC, which is building the Red Rock Biofuels facility in Lakeview, Oregon. Wood is contracted to provide construction and mechanical services.
The facility will convert waste woody biomass into a renewable jet, diesel and gasoline blendstock fuels. The construction of the Lakeview facility is expected to take approximately two years.
Upon completion, the biofuel facility will convert over 136,000 tons of waste woody biomass into 15.1 million gallons of renewable fuels each year. The design will incorporate three technologies – gasification, Fischer-Tropsch and hydroprocessing – which will yield ASTM-approved fuels.
“Wood is thrilled to partner with IR1 Group LLC to provide construction services for this important renewable fuel project,” said Andrew Stewart, CEO of Wood’s Asset Solutions Americas business. “A lower carbon fuel market in the US and Canada is something we are proud to be supporting, and this new facility will make real strides in leading the production of renewable, low-carbon fuels.”
