United Illuminating Announces New Partnership with Vigeri

The United Illuminating Company (UI), a subsidiary of Avangrid, has partnered with Vigeri to become the first electric vehicle in Connecticut. We support the introduction and implementation of an automobile (EV) managed-to-charge program. Founded by the Connecticut Utility Regulatory Agency (PURA), the program leverages both behavioral and managed-to-charge strategies designed to shift customers’ EV loads during off-peak hours.

This effort is part of greater collaboration between UI, PURA, and other stakeholders, a state-wide effort to develop an electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, which will reach 125,000 to 150,000 by 2025. It contributes to Connecticut’s goal of running a single electric vehicle. Connecticut’s Electric Vehicle Managed Charging Program will begin on January 1, 2022, with managed charging scheduled to begin in June.

Frank Reynolds, UI President, and CEO said: “We are very pleased that Bigeri is incorporating its state-of-the-art technology into Connecticut’s EV charging program. Together, Connecticut will continue to be a key leader in next-generation clean energy in the region. You can maintain your position as a state. “

By applying Vigeri’s Utility AI ™ platform to UI’s existing Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) data, UI can detect EV owners across service areas and encourage participation in UI’s managed charging program. Will be.

Rick Rosa, EV Manager at Avangrid, said: “As more EVs are owned, we must develop strategies that can manage the impact of large-scale charging on the grid while providing users with choices and management capabilities. This program is off-peak. We use behavior-focused messages to give our customers an incentive to charge during these hours, which uses state-of-the-art telematics technology to drive load shifts and direct hostile managed charging. Vigeri provides all customers with a scalable and cost-effective solution while minimizing the impact on the grid caused by the inevitable large-scale deployment of EVs. “

The UI and Vigeri were able to effectively design a customized solution for a two-step approach that included behavioral and managed to charge. Vigeri’s patented technology allows UIs to identify current EV owners based on their use and provide owner-tailored information on how to manage their use and minimize costs. .. Users who allow opt-ins will receive a notification email about peak charging and a monthly summary report to view their activity on a web basis. Users can use this information to determine the best charging method for their needs. The UI minimizes customer costs and supplies energy during peak hours by remotely managing vehicle charging and optimizing grid flexibility for users who allow managed charging opt-in. Ensure balance. Both charging groups are designed to provide financial incentives for registration and off-peak charging.

Gautam Agawar, Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) of Bigeri, said: “We commend UI, Connecticut, and industry partners for their leadership in developing groundbreaking EV charging programs. We are joining the partnership to join the electric power company, We are proud to be able to demonstrate how regulators and technology providers can work together to increase customer value and prepare for the distribution system management practices that underpin the significant growth of EVs. “

UI and Avangrid are making a number of efforts to accelerate the adoption of EVs, including this new partnership with Vigeri. Avangrid’s EV roadmap paves the way for becoming an industry leader in the development and integration of EV infrastructure and technologies to support the growth of the EV market and reduce transportation emissions in serviced areas. is showing. Avangrid’s group of companies is also a member of the Electric Highway Coalition, a partnership of utilities working together to build a network of EV fast-charging stations across the United States.
