A Full House
I was heading off to the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, where there was anticipation and buzz surrounding the conference and how the industry’s opportunities were on the rise in all sectors.
As I sat on the flight to Houston and looked around, there was an air of anticipation that highlighted optimism; I overheard the excited chatter of business conversations.
As news would have it, what came up in conversation on that flight was the BP oil spill. On the one hand, we were all headed to one of the largest most progressive oil shows in the world, and on the other hand, we were still dealing with a catastrophic environmental challenge. Interesting!
Life’s seems to be like that, an irony of progress and challenges all at the same time. Rather than belabor the “negatives” of the disaster, I wanted to focus on what could be done, what were the spill solutions.
It’s very easy to criticize and condemn in the midst of a crisis but it doesn’t really get us anywhere. I chose to give BP the benefit of the doubt and to respect their efforts to contain the spill and cleanup process.
The first day at the Offshore Technology Conference presented many interesting and exciting prospects. For all of you who did not have a chance to attend this year’s conference, rest assured that the show was bigger and better than last year’s, with over 70,000 attendees and representatives from Australia to Zimbabwe and every other country in between.
The motto of the show was simple: let’s do business. There was a strong emphasis on global procurement opportunities and it was obvious that we were out of the worst economic crisis seen in my lifetime. With renewed enthusiasm at OTC we enjoyed a new era of opportunities. The show was, no exaggeration, A Full House.
At The Oil and Gas Magazine we understand that procurement is one of the “hot” topics in the energy sector and it sure was at OTC. Everyone was excited to learn about the new upcoming global projects, the magnitude of the business opportunities, the global operators and the values of these
multi-billion dollar initiatives.
With your business success in mind, in each edition of The Oil and Gas Magazine, you will find a procurement section outlining the global opportunities. We also encourage our clients and readers to submit tenders and contracts in the interest of creating a dynamic and global playing field for oil developments.
It is our dream that the world become one global market place for energy matters, energy procurement and truly a climate where you can create supply from anywhere at any time. To support this initiative we will be launching a Global Energy Directory with our new online magazine this summer. We think that’s a game worth playing!
Last but not least, we are happy to welcome our new clients to this issue and profile them strategically in a way that enables them to respond to international growth and demand. The energy industry has comeback with a vengeance! Be excited!
