When turnarounds are delayed or unplanned shutdowns occur, they can cost the company millions in lost production and increase costs for labor, tools and heavy equipment. This is why effective planning, timely execution and a safety-first culture are essential to the success of any turnaround. A good plan will complete the project on time, but an exceptional plan will complete the project on time, within budget and zero workplace injuries. Major refineries have planned shutdowns approximately once every five year. During a planned shutdown tasks must be carefully coordinated and executed in the shortest timeframe possible. To meet this demand companies must bring in contractors, resulting in as much as 3x more workers on-site, further adding to the complexity and safety during these events.
