Newfoundland is an island off the eastern coast of Canada. Port Blandford is 2 1/4 hours drive west of the capital city St. John’s & approximately 7 hours drive east of Port Aux Basques.

There are three exits to Port Blandford off the Trans- Canada Highway (Highway #1). All three exits will take you to Main St. By d’Bay Cabins is 210 Main Street between Blackmore’s Rd and Legion Rd (route 233) .

Newfoundland can be accessed by air or water. There are several commercial airports.(St. John’s (YYT), Gander(YQZ) Deer Lake(YDF) Stephenville (YGT) Smaller airports are St. Anthony (YAY).
In Labrador there are airports at Goose Bay ((YYR) & Wabush (YWK).

WestJet, Air Canada, Air Canada tango, Air Canada jazz and Porter Airlines operate regular air service to Newfoundland and Labrador, with connections available from all major centres in the United States and Canada. Air Transat offers charter flights from Toronto to Newfoundland and Labrador during the summer months. Air Canada jazz, Provincial Airlines, and Air Labrador provide regular service within Newfoundland and Labrador.

Air Labrador also offers service through St. Anthony to many points in Labrador. Provincial Airlines also offers service to the French island of St. Pierre.

The Ferry Service (Marine Atlantic) travels from North Sydney, Nova Scotia to Port Aux Basques (year round) and Argentia (seasonally from late June to late Sept). Reservations are recommended for both ferries (call 1-800-341-7981 to make reservations).

Highway Travel:

The Trans-Canada Highway ( Route 1) crosses the island portion of Newfoundland west to east from Port Aux Basques to St. John’s, a distance of 902 kilometers. Secondary highways along the route provide many fascinating, “ off-the-beaten-track” side trips.

Anyone flying and renting a car should consider landing and takeoff at airports on different coasts of Newfoundland to save repeat driving.

The use of seat belts is mandatory in Newfoundland Labrador. Radar detectors are illegal and it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol limit exceeding .05 milligrams of alcohol per litre of blood. The use of hand held cell phone by drivers when driving is prohibited.
