View Past IssuesIn January of 2011, I had the privilege of attending the opening of the largest state-of-the-art Porsche Center that can be boasted of in the world! Tucked into Musaffah, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, we, as specially invited guests, witnessed the realization of a dream to open a 55 million dirham, 1.8 million (U.S. dollars) facility that was impressive to say the least!
Ahmed Al Dhahry, vice chairman of the Motors Division at Ali & Sons Co. said, “This was an exciting day for us as we moved into our brand new facility and celebrated the arrival of the new 911. The opening of the facility is Porsche Centre, Abu Dhabi’s next step towards achieving customer service excellence. This multimillion dirham facility further reinforces Ali & Sons Company’s commitment to Porsche customers in Abu Dhabi and also marks another major step in strengthening the brand, recognized for its superior quality.”While attending the event and viewing the facility, we were given the full experience of the grandure and level of excellence that went into the architecture of this endeavour. The exclusive gala event was attended by customers and dignitaries, and provided a spectacular show of entertainment and inspiration that ultimately unveiled the highly acclaimed next-generation 911 Carrera and Carrera S Coupé.
The new-generation Porsche 911 Carrera is emerging from one of the biggest developmental steps in the long history of this classic sports car. Almost 90 percent of all components have been redesigned or redeveloped. With its all-new lightweight body, further drivetrain efficiencies and new suspension systems, the Coupé offers the driver improved Porsche Intelligent Performance. This manifests itself in yet further enhanced driving dynamics: up to 16 percent lower fuel consumption and emissions combined with even greater everyday practicality.
The 911 remains Porsche’s iconic sports car, offering a blistering speed of 289 km/hr; it is the first passenger car in the world to feature a sevenspeed manual transmission, and the first sports car equipped with an auto start/stop function, electro-mechanical power steering and a new “coasting function,” in vehicles equipped with the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK). The new electro-mechanical power steering offers even better precision and response, while increasing efficiency and reducing general fuel consumption.
The athletic 350 hp 3.4-litre boxer engine consumes a mere 8.2 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers; that’s 16 percent less than its predecessor. And, with an emission level of 194 g/km CO2, it is the first Porsche sports car to make it below the 200 g/km mark.
At 48, the design of the Porsche 911 Carrera is younger than ever: the all-new generation of this sports car icon is stepping into the limelight with its fl at, stretched silhouette, exciting contours, sharply contoured edges and precisely designed details, yet from the very first glance, it remains unmistakably a 911 Carrera. The exterior has been completely redesigned—not a single line or radius has been left unchanged. What remains is the enthralling appeal: true to the 911 Carrera tradition, the distinctive Porsche design language with its tendons and muscles exudes power and elegance.
The new 911 Carrera design derives from the altered proportions of the sports car. The 100 millimeters longer wheelbase, wider front track and reduced height combined with the up to 20-inch wheels were an outstanding starting point for designing a new Coupé with even more athletic fl air. From this starting point, Porsche’s designers have developed a new 911 Carrera shape with an ideal height-to-width ratio. Without altering the overall width, they have created a sports car with an even more solid stance on the road.
Congratulations Porsche Centre Mussafah and Ali & Sons of Abu Dhabi! We like your style!
