She is the mother of two beautiful daughters, speaks four languages, has been recognized by various organizations, resided in numerous countries and has made it her mission to elevate corporate responsibility and the status of women in the Oil and Gas Industry. Her list of achievements and experiences make her a modern day inspiration to all women. She has motivated others by not only her endless list of achievements and accolades but also her attitude, personality and values.
Anna Murray holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Business Administration (International) from the University of British Columbia and is currently studying for a law degree (part-time) at the University of Calgary. Anna has worked at Talisman in the Corporate Affairs Group since 2011. Previously, Anna held several key positions around the world at leading international institutions. Her work experience includes working as a consultant for the United Nations in New York and Geneva, she was the manager of Sustainability and Stakeholder Relations and a Senior Advisor at GlencoreXstrata Plc and a Risk Analyst at HSBC in Shanghai, China. Her expertise includes stakeholder engagement, community relations, human rights and security, risk management and governance activities.
Anna was determined to spend a significant portion of her time studying her MBA while on an exchange in China in order to gain further familiarity with the culture and economic realities of the country. It was during her time living, studying and working in Shanghai that she had the opportunity to see the world. While travelling around the developing world, she became inspired and concerned about the impact globalization was having and this inspired Anna to pursue a career in corporate social responsibility.
After leaving her job at HSBC based in Shanghai, Anna moved to New York to work for the United Nations Global Compact, the arm of the United Nations that works with international corporations to help provide guidance on ethical business practices. There she focused her work on international business, particularly the extractive industry.
After spending time both in Geneva and New York with the United Nations, Anna then moved back to Canada to work with GlencoreXstrata, one of the world’s largest mining companies as the Manager of Sustainability. Based in Toronto, Anna spent most of her time travelling to remote villages in Tanzania and the Dominican Republic, working with the local communities that the company was working in and around to help ensure that the company was abiding by ethical policy and best international practice.
After four years, Anna began working for Talisman Energy Inc. in the Corporate Affairs Department.
Anna is the recipient of the Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award (WXN), Top 40 Under 40 (Avenue Magazine), Top 20 under 40 (Oil and Gas Investor), Rising Star Class of 2014 (Oilweek), Arch Award (University of Calgary), Culbert Family Award for Philanthropy (United Way), and was named by Canadian Business Magazine as part of 20 Women in Power “set to transform the face of business in Canada”.
In addition to this impressive list of accolades, Anna currently sits on several boards including Young Woman in Energy. Anna is the executive director and founder of YWE, an organization founded to champion the interest of young women in the energy industry.
