OUR GREAT MINDS

This Is All A Part Of Life’s Rich Pattern

My father, Bob Olivero has been by my side my entire life. When I started The Oil and Gas Magazine 23 years ago, he was the person who encouraged me.  When life got difficult and I didn’t think I could do it any more, he was also the person who showed me how to think in new and creative ways.  When I would get full of complaints and bogged down in low level details he would demand that I, “just get on with it”. When we celebrated all of our accomplishments along the way, he came to every party and every possible place that he, could to acknowledge the work we were doing in The Oil and Gas Magazine. It was important work because we were facilitating the oil and gas industry forward. We were promoting our province, our people, and our resources–not just here in Newfoundland, but around the world.

My father was a man who served people and he did this in public service postings and also worked for underdeveloped countries around the world. He set up universities, he ran the Public Service Commission of Newfoundland, and he even supported Prime Minister Pearson’s office in his younger days. Bob Olivero eventually went on to work for the United Nations in NYC and held a post in anti-corruption, levelling the playing field for international developments. His global vision never left me. He was able to see what most never could; that there was always a better way, always a place to be helpful, and always new possibilities. It’s with that foundation that The Oil and Gas Magazine–now The OGM, grew to become a world leader in communication excellence. Every edition of The OGM got better and better as we grew over the years. And, eventually we expanded into Alberta. Our readership and offerings grew and diversified. Just recently we were nominated as one of the top publications online in Canada. It’s been a long and amazing journey, and yet somehow it feels like we’ve only just begun.

What I have learned along the way is that we all set out to take the journey of doing the best we can, to be a contribution and to make a difference. Sometimes we end up where we wanted but most often we end up somewhere even better. As my father said, “This is all a part of life’s rich pattern.” And so it is. This edition of The OGM, is dedicated to my father, Bob Olivero, who passed away four weeks ago. Thank you for all you are to me and all that I am, because of you.

    Tina Olivero

30 years ago, Tina Olivero looked into the future and saw an opportunity to make a difference for her province and people. That difference came in the form of the oil and gas sector. Six years before there was even a drop of oil brought to the shores of Newfoundland, she founded The Oil and Gas Magazine (THE OGM) from a back room in her home on Signal Hill Road, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. A single mother, no financing, no previous journalism or oil and gas experience, she forged ahead, with a creative vision and one heck of a heaping dose of sheer determination. With her pioneering spirit, Ms. Olivero developed a magazine that would educate, inspire, motivate and entertain oil and gas readers around the world — She prides herself in marketing and promoting our province and resources in unprecedented ways. The OGM is a magazine that focuses on our projects, our people, our opportunities and ultimately becomes the bridge to new energy outcomes and a sustainable new energy world. Now diversifying into the communications realms, a natural progression from the Magazine, The OGM now offers an entirely new division - Oil & Gas Media. Today, The Oil and Gas Magazine is a global phenomenon that operates not only in Newfoundland, but also in Calgary and is read by oil and gas enthusiasts in Norway, Aberdeen, across the US and as far reaching as Abu Dhabi, in the Middle East. Believing that Energy is everyone’s business, Ms. Olivero has combined energy + culture to embrace the worlds commitment to a balance of work and home life as well as fostering a foundation for health and well being. In this era of growth and development business and lifestyle are an eloquent mix, there is no beginning or end. Partnering with over 90 oil and gas exhibitions and conferences around the world, Ms. Olivero's role as a Global Visionary is to embrace communication in a way that fosters oil and gas business and industry growth in new and creative ways.
