A Grounded Approach Expands Offshore Operations

DOF Subsea Canada is part of the DOF Group of companies operating within three different segments in relation to strategic activities and vessel types:

    1. Platform Supply Vessel (PSV)
    2. Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel (AHTS)
    3. Construction Support Vessel/Subsea ROV Vessel (CSV)

Headquartered in Bergen, the DOF Subsea Group employs in excess of 1400 highly qualified staff, owns 25 modern offshore construction support vessels, 50 ROV systems, and a Hugin AUV. Together, they perform as a world-class offshore construction support, survey, ROV, and IRM contractor.

Founded in 2004, DOF Subsea Canada provides project specific offshore surface and subsea positioning services. This includes equipment and personnel for offshore field development, as well as support vessels and ROV Systems. Services include innovative software packages, subsea construction, seabed mapping, remote operated vehicles (ROV), Smartwire metrology and high precision survey in subsea environments.

DOF Subsea believes their personnel are their greatest assets. With a “work locally and think globally” philosophy of sharing knowledge they’ve created a high-performance culture which enables growth and achievement. Their ability to manage the rapid level of growth in the offshore industry, both in Eastern Canada and indeed worldwide, combined with the company’s commitment to training and career path advancements, and the work culture is challenging.

Health Safety Environment and Quality (HSEQ) is at the core of all operations and includes industry accreditation towards International Standards ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, and OHSAS 18001. DOF operates under a unified, Global Business Management System which helps guide every facet and region’s operations. Regular reviews and HSEQ initiatives further strengthen the position to meet challenges and achieve solid safety leadership goals and objectives.

DOF Subsea’s Canadian Team comprises survey engineers, technologists, technicians, ROV professionals, and a strong onshore support group of project and technical managers. The HR and HSEQ staff ensures services are delivered to a very high standard of quality, safety, on-time and on-budget. Most employees reside in Atlantic Canada with the vast majority in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. They strongly promote the hiring and development of people from the region and have endorsed many graduates from the colleges and universities in the areas.

Recent expansion of services in Eastern Canada now include a mobile, deep water ROV. This system can be quickly mobilized on any vessel of opportunity to provide operations in harsh environments with a controllable launch and recovery system.

DOF Subsea Canada General Manager Kirk Stead says, “We have come a long way since starting our business in Atlantic Canada nine years ago, and we have established a high level of trust and competence with our clients here. We are continuing to grow and improve our services as our industry moves into more challenging conditions as in the deeper waters of the Orphan and Laurentian Basins and the Flemish Pass, and into further northern regions.”
