World Leaders in New Energy Initiatives – Nobel Peace Prize Winners

    Al Gore – 2007

In 1997 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) prepared periodic climate assessments on science, impacts and adaptation, and mitigation based on the contributions of several hundred expert authors nominated by governments. The majority of experts in the IPCC, work in academia and government labs, but there are a handful who also work in business, including Haroon Kheshgi and Brian Flannery from ExxonMobil.

Over the years, they have contributed to three IPCC assessments and two special reports and have served as review editors for IPCC publications. The valuable contributions of these experts were recognized, when the IPCC received the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. The scientists were recognized when Al Gore (left) delivered his Nobel Lecture on 10 December, 2007, at Oslo City Hall, Norway. They were recognized for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change. We celebrate and humbly applaud the ExxonMobil teamwork!

    Barack H. Obama – 2009

Barack H. Obama delivered his Nobel Lecture on December 10, 2009, at the Oslo City Hall, Norway. He was introduced by Thorbjørn Jagland, Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Touted as one of the leading visionaries and masters of designing an inspiring future, Barack Obama has filled the world with hope and a solid belief in our ability to change the state of the planet.

Did you know… The World’s Largest Solar Energy Building in China is in the northeastern province of Shandong. The world’s largest solar energy building opened in November, 2009. Built in preparation for the Fourth World Solar City Congress, the sun-dial inspired building covers 75,000 square meters and features exhibition halls, scientific research facilities, training facilities and a hotel.

Did you know… The fastest growing fuel in 2010 is coal, which is powering the world’s biggest markets such as China and India. Together “ChIndia”, accounts for more than 80% of global coal consumption which is 3.3% higher than last year.

Did you know… Winds on the high seas are stronger than on land and, therefore, wind turbines can generate twice as much electricity offshore than on land. Today, we have new “FLOATING” wind turbines that open up a whole new world of wind energy options.

Did you know… Wind Turbines have advanced so far that one turbine today can output 3.6 Megawatts which means supplying 1000 homes with electricity!

Did you know… The new LED light bulbs have a “light-emitting diode” that is break proof, vibration resistant and compact and delivers an 80% energy savings compared to previous technology.

Did you know… Siemens holds the world record in efficiency for inventing a clothes dryer that uses 50% less electricity.

Did you know… Photovoltaic’s is an energy system where “solar cells” convert the sun’s rays into electrical power used to heat or air condition your home!

    Tina Olivero

30 years ago, Tina Olivero looked into the future and saw an opportunity to make a difference for her province and people. That difference came in the form of the oil and gas sector. Six years before there was even a drop of oil brought to the shores of Newfoundland, she founded The Oil and Gas Magazine (THE OGM) from a back room in her home on Signal Hill Road, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. A single mother, no financing, no previous journalism or oil and gas experience, she forged ahead, with a creative vision and one heck of a heaping dose of sheer determination. With her pioneering spirit, Ms. Olivero developed a magazine that would educate, inspire, motivate and entertain oil and gas readers around the world — She prides herself in marketing and promoting our province and resources in unprecedented ways. The OGM is a magazine that focuses on our projects, our people, our opportunities and ultimately becomes the bridge to new energy outcomes and a sustainable new energy world. Now diversifying into the communications realms, a natural progression from the Magazine, The OGM now offers an entirely new division - Oil & Gas Media. Today, The Oil and Gas Magazine is a global phenomenon that operates not only in Newfoundland, but also in Calgary and is read by oil and gas enthusiasts in Norway, Aberdeen, across the US and as far reaching as Abu Dhabi, in the Middle East. Believing that Energy is everyone’s business, Ms. Olivero has combined energy + culture to embrace the worlds commitment to a balance of work and home life as well as fostering a foundation for health and well being. In this era of growth and development business and lifestyle are an eloquent mix, there is no beginning or end. Partnering with over 90 oil and gas exhibitions and conferences around the world, Ms. Olivero's role as a Global Visionary is to embrace communication in a way that fosters oil and gas business and industry growth in new and creative ways.
