    Alberta Forest Fires: Support here!

Alberta Canada is in a provincial state of emergency. The massive catastrophe is the largest wildfire in the province’s history and has a mandatory evacuation where upwards of 88,000 people. The following communities are under an evacuation order:

    • Fort McMurray
    • Mackenzie County: Rural residents south of High Level
    •  Anzac
    • Gregoire Lake Estates
    • Fort McMurray First Nation

Oil sands facilities are not directly in the path of the fire but many oil and gas workers in the region will be displaced from their homes and are forced to leave.

Oil and gas companies in the region are taking every safety precaution and shutting down operations and evacuating.  Approximately 10,000 people are in Fort McMurray and oil and gas camps in the Fort McMurray area are affected. Oil and gas facilities in the area are involved in shut-in procedures. For specifics on oil and gas company shut-ins click here for the Reuters report.

    Updates & Emergency Notifications

Residents  of the region can receive wildfire updates through the following apps and online services:

Under no circumstance should residents attempt to return home as areas are not safe to enter.

Emergencies of this magnitude require a calm and collected approach where people are evacuated with safety as the paramount priority.  Community support is essential and each person’s contribution will make the difference.

The response has been wholehearted and strong from thousands of people and organizations.  This is what’s needed for a wildfire of this magnitude. However, the fire is still actively burning with the significant loss of over 1,600 structures being lost in Fort McMurray. The fire situation is exacerbated by the temperature and wind conditions and rapidly changing fire behaviour, making it difficult for the over 250 firefighters working on this fire.  Complimenting this is air space firefighters utilizing helicopters and aircraft to support fire suppression efforts.

    SUPPORT

Responders are working relentlessly to try and get the fire under control.  With over a thousand homes and business impacted by the Alberta forest fires we can all work toward assisting in this catastrophe. The Government of Alberta is matching all donations made to the Canadian Red Cross.  People will need support in lodging, food, finance and eventually rebuilding. Here’s the link so that you can make a difference and donate!

    Tina Olivero

30 years ago, Tina Olivero looked into the future and saw an opportunity to make a difference for her province and people. That difference came in the form of the oil and gas sector. Six years before there was even a drop of oil brought to the shores of Newfoundland, she founded The Oil and Gas Magazine (THE OGM) from a back room in her home on Signal Hill Road, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. A single mother, no financing, no previous journalism or oil and gas experience, she forged ahead, with a creative vision and one heck of a heaping dose of sheer determination. With her pioneering spirit, Ms. Olivero developed a magazine that would educate, inspire, motivate and entertain oil and gas readers around the world — She prides herself in marketing and promoting our province and resources in unprecedented ways. The OGM is a magazine that focuses on our projects, our people, our opportunities and ultimately becomes the bridge to new energy outcomes and a sustainable new energy world. Now diversifying into the communications realms, a natural progression from the Magazine, The OGM now offers an entirely new division - Oil & Gas Media. Today, The Oil and Gas Magazine is a global phenomenon that operates not only in Newfoundland, but also in Calgary and is read by oil and gas enthusiasts in Norway, Aberdeen, across the US and as far reaching as Abu Dhabi, in the Middle East. Believing that Energy is everyone’s business, Ms. Olivero has combined energy + culture to embrace the worlds commitment to a balance of work and home life as well as fostering a foundation for health and well being. In this era of growth and development business and lifestyle are an eloquent mix, there is no beginning or end. Partnering with over 90 oil and gas exhibitions and conferences around the world, Ms. Olivero's role as a Global Visionary is to embrace communication in a way that fosters oil and gas business and industry growth in new and creative ways.
