OUR GREAT MINDS

One Man’s Pollution is Another Man’s Gold!

In every square mile of ocean, there are approx. 46,000 pieces of waste plastic. What does that mean to you?

For some, it means we are excessive polluters and this is an extreme crisis. For others, it means we have not been willing and/or creative enough to turn it into an tremendous opportunity. Where are you on this continuum?

Humanity has two very distinct perspectives that have a life and energy of their own. What we know for sure is that neither perspective feels good unless we are actively and creatively finding solutions to the serious pollution issues we, as a planet, face.

Absolute Combustion International Inc. (“A.C.I.”) of Calgary, Alberta, has a team of visionaries that choose to believe that all the soft waste plastic in the ocean, on the land and in our landfills could be turned into the building blocks of tomorrow. They see a world of soft waste plastic being transformed into economically viable businesses, such as a world of residential and commercial products and endless financial opportunities. While that might seem like quite a leap of faith for some, people like Thomas Edison would agree. “Where there’s an intention to create a new reality—most often a new reality is made.” To all the visionaries, “Thank you!”

Darsell Karringten, president and CEO of A.C.I., is concerned with creating a new solution and an entire global movement as a force for social and environmental reform. Darsell says, “Petroleum people really understand pollution because we work within it. We have to find new ways around it. We need to be solution providers for a sustainable world. Soft plastics represent a massive global waste issue, while at the same time, it is also a significant business opportunity. So, in reality, we all have a responsibility and a magnificent opportunity to turn the major pollution issues of our time into the sustainable solutions of tomorrow. At A.C.I., this is what we do.”

Darsell explains, “As a company concerned with our environment and the future of our children, we invented a near flameless and low emission burner system to assist in these initiatives. We have developed a way to densify soft waste plastic, using our high-efficiency burner system. Imagine being able to reuse plastic materials that will provide shelter for underdeveloped countries— that’s a powerful concept. Today, our burner is being used to create building materials, utilizing larger quantities of soft waste plastic.”

Robindra Mohar, an A.C.I. strategist ,says, “Our waste plastic solution is just one of many environmental initiatives that we can implement with our high efficiency, low-emission burners. We invite industry to collaborate with us to address this global crisis. Align with us in becoming an active leader for environmental social change. That is what ACI is all about!”

Just stop and think about it! What if that plastic water bottle—yes, the one in your hand—could someday be transformed into building materials? Now that is true innovation! Do you think it would be cost-effective to take free waste and convert it into a valuable commodity, thereby creating an entirely new environmentally conscious market? You bet!

    Tina Olivero

30 years ago, Tina Olivero looked into the future and saw an opportunity to make a difference for her province and people. That difference came in the form of the oil and gas sector. Six years before there was even a drop of oil brought to the shores of Newfoundland, she founded The Oil and Gas Magazine (THE OGM) from a back room in her home on Signal Hill Road, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. A single mother, no financing, no previous journalism or oil and gas experience, she forged ahead, with a creative vision and one heck of a heaping dose of sheer determination. With her pioneering spirit, Ms. Olivero developed a magazine that would educate, inspire, motivate and entertain oil and gas readers around the world — She prides herself in marketing and promoting our province and resources in unprecedented ways. The OGM is a magazine that focuses on our projects, our people, our opportunities and ultimately becomes the bridge to new energy outcomes and a sustainable new energy world. Now diversifying into the communications realms, a natural progression from the Magazine, The OGM now offers an entirely new division - Oil & Gas Media. Today, The Oil and Gas Magazine is a global phenomenon that operates not only in Newfoundland, but also in Calgary and is read by oil and gas enthusiasts in Norway, Aberdeen, across the US and as far reaching as Abu Dhabi, in the Middle East. Believing that Energy is everyone’s business, Ms. Olivero has combined energy + culture to embrace the worlds commitment to a balance of work and home life as well as fostering a foundation for health and well being. In this era of growth and development business and lifestyle are an eloquent mix, there is no beginning or end. Partnering with over 90 oil and gas exhibitions and conferences around the world, Ms. Olivero's role as a Global Visionary is to embrace communication in a way that fosters oil and gas business and industry growth in new and creative ways.
