Newfoundland & Labrador, 5 Reasons Why You Want to be Here!

Newfoundland, Canada, has become a hot spot for energy investors worldwide because it offers an overall package of investor criteria that tick all the boxes. Here are five things to keep in mind when you’re considering your global expansion options:

    1. Newfoundland and Labrador are strategically located on Canada’s east coast and is ideally positioned to do business with markets around the world. St. John’s, the capital city, is experiencing the country’s highest level of productivity, and, according to Statistics Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador’s GDP recorded the largest 6.1 percent increase among the provinces in real GGP in 2010.
    2. Newfoundland and Labrador has nearly three billion barrels of oil and 11 trillion cubic feet of natural gas discovered to date, an estimated undiscovered potential of six billion barrels of oil and 60 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Newfoundland’s Hibernia, White Rose and Terra Nova account for about 40 percent of Canada’s conventional light crude output. Additional developments include Hibernia South, Hebron and North Amethyst, which have been sanctioned and are currently under development.
    3. The oil and gas industry is supported with project funding such as the Manufacturing and Services Export Development and the EDGE Program. Tax incentives are provided to EDGE designated companies for a period of 10 or 15 years, followed by a five-year period of partial rebates.
    4. Newfoundland and Labrador has a powerful support infrastructure. It is strategically positioned on international shipping lanes, with deep-water, ice-free ports, giving exceptional access to global markets. It also has some of the top research facilities in the world.
    5. The provinces’ capital city “St. John’s” is seeing ongoing construction offer new Class “A” office buildings and an array of industrial park options that support St. John’s and the surrounding area.

One thing is very clear, Newfoundland and Labrador is at the beginning of its energy industry legacy. The opportunities are endless, and for those seeking a very stable, clear and concise business regime, this province offers a wide-open market for entrepreneurs, visionaries, oil companies and contractors.

30 years ago, Tina Olivero looked into the future and saw an opportunity to make a difference for her province and people. That difference came in the form of the oil and gas sector. Six years before there was even a drop of oil brought to the shores of Newfoundland, she founded The Oil and Gas Magazine (THE OGM) from a back room in her home on Signal Hill Road, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. A single mother, no financing, no previous journalism or oil and gas experience, she forged ahead, with a creative vision and one heck of a heaping dose of sheer determination. With her pioneering spirit, Ms. Olivero developed a magazine that would educate, inspire, motivate and entertain oil and gas readers around the world — She prides herself in marketing and promoting our province and resources in unprecedented ways. The OGM is a magazine that focuses on our projects, our people, our opportunities and ultimately becomes the bridge to new energy outcomes and a sustainable new energy world. Now diversifying into the communications realms, a natural progression from the Magazine, The OGM now offers an entirely new division - Oil & Gas Media. Today, The Oil and Gas Magazine is a global phenomenon that operates not only in Newfoundland, but also in Calgary and is read by oil and gas enthusiasts in Norway, Aberdeen, across the US and as far reaching as Abu Dhabi, in the Middle East. Believing that Energy is everyone’s business, Ms. Olivero has combined energy + culture to embrace the worlds commitment to a balance of work and home life as well as fostering a foundation for health and well being. In this era of growth and development business and lifestyle are an eloquent mix, there is no beginning or end. Partnering with over 90 oil and gas exhibitions and conferences around the world, Ms. Olivero's role as a Global Visionary is to embrace communication in a way that fosters oil and gas business and industry growth in new and creative ways.
