OUR GREAT MINDS

    A Few Things I Have Learned…

With almost twenty years in the energy business it’s my pleasure to share with you some of the things I have learned:

    1. The most powerful thing we can do with a
non-renewable resource like oil and gas, is use it to create renewable energy like solar, wind and geothermal. It’s all about a new energy mix!

    2. Globalization and diversification are business themes for today and for the future.

    3. When things don’t work out, it’s usually because something MUCH bigger is trying to get in: let it in.

    4. Don’t hire people to get you out of a big problem; hire people who solve problems before they even arise – that’s smart hiring.

    5. Creativity in business is a much stronger attribute than skills. Foster creativity as a culture in your organization.

    6. People want to grow, be challenged, learn and be inspired at work; give them a system to do this.

    7. Everyone has leadership capabilities that can be expressed in his or her own way. Create an environment to foster leadership in everyone.

    8. Work life is a palette for our voice, our thoughts, our imagination, our goals and our dreams – paint on it.

    9. Companies are built with networks of conversations. Focus on powerful communication and powerful communication systems.

    10. There’s a time to be tough and there’s a time for compassion, but there is no formula for when and how.

    11. We can handle just about anything and anything is possible. Take it on from this point of view, as it’s a whole lot better than believing the alternative.

    12. Risk in business is just a little concept designed to stretch us. Embrace it and trust it to reveal how the world is relentlessly working in our favor.

    13. Mistakes are a MUST: Make great big ones and learn everything you possibly can!

    14. Learn, learn, and keep learning; read, grow, take courses, evolve and participate in the art of personal and professional mastery!

    15. Seek a way to be an instrument of peace, an example of leadership and a contribution to others daily! You will look back on your work life and appreciate yourself for this one.

    Tina Olivero

30 years ago, Tina Olivero looked into the future and saw an opportunity to make a difference for her province and people. That difference came in the form of the oil and gas sector. Six years before there was even a drop of oil brought to the shores of Newfoundland, she founded The Oil and Gas Magazine (THE OGM) from a back room in her home on Signal Hill Road, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. A single mother, no financing, no previous journalism or oil and gas experience, she forged ahead, with a creative vision and one heck of a heaping dose of sheer determination. With her pioneering spirit, Ms. Olivero developed a magazine that would educate, inspire, motivate and entertain oil and gas readers around the world — She prides herself in marketing and promoting our province and resources in unprecedented ways. The OGM is a magazine that focuses on our projects, our people, our opportunities and ultimately becomes the bridge to new energy outcomes and a sustainable new energy world. Now diversifying into the communications realms, a natural progression from the Magazine, The OGM now offers an entirely new division - Oil & Gas Media. Today, The Oil and Gas Magazine is a global phenomenon that operates not only in Newfoundland, but also in Calgary and is read by oil and gas enthusiasts in Norway, Aberdeen, across the US and as far reaching as Abu Dhabi, in the Middle East. Believing that Energy is everyone’s business, Ms. Olivero has combined energy + culture to embrace the worlds commitment to a balance of work and home life as well as fostering a foundation for health and well being. In this era of growth and development business and lifestyle are an eloquent mix, there is no beginning or end. Partnering with over 90 oil and gas exhibitions and conferences around the world, Ms. Olivero's role as a Global Visionary is to embrace communication in a way that fosters oil and gas business and industry growth in new and creative ways.
